Givenchy appoints Matthew Williams as its new creative director.
You might recognise him as the designer behind cult streetwear label 1017 ALYX 9SM. The 34-year-old British designer succeeds Claire Waight Keller — who stepped down in April — and will be the Parisian house’s new creative director for both men’s and womenswear. Sidney Toledano, the CEO of Givenchy’s parent company, LVMH, broke the news via a press release. “I believe his singular vision of modernity will be a great opportunity for Givenchy to write its new chapter with strength and success,” he said.

The American luxury label founded by Sander Lak has been hit hard by the pandemic. “As a young independent company, we were significantly impacted by COVID-19. With a heavy heart, we have made the very difficult decision to close our business,” Lak declared. He later made a statement to Women’s Wear Daily, thanking everyone who has given their time and talent to the label in the past five years.
250 Black fashion professionals have launched an initiative requesting for industry transparency, inclusivity, and accountability.
Titled The Kelly Initiative in honour of the first Black designer admitted into the Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter, the proposal calls for the Council Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to implement a plan that specifically pushes for the “active inclusion of Black talent across wide-ranging strata and sectors of fashion.” Signatures are still being collected here — non-Black allies are welcome to sign.
